How to Pop Ornery Goods Popcorn
No microwave. No mystery oil. Just a pot, some coconut oil, and about five minutes.
What you need
- Heavy bottom pot with a lid — medium sized
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1/3 cup Ornery Goods popcorn kernels
- A large bowl standing by
How to do it
Heat your pot over medium heat with the coconut oil and three kernels of corn. Cover it and wait. When all three kernels pop the oil is at the right temperature — not before, not after.
Add the 1/3 cup of kernels immediately and cover the pot.
Agitate. Keep the pot moving so the kernels don't sit in one place and scorch. The popping will start fast and loud and then slow down.
If the volume pushes the lid off transfer what you have to your bowl and return the pot to the heat until the popping dies down completely.
That's it.
A few notes
Coconut oil runs hotter than butter — don't walk away once the kernels are in.
The three kernel test is not optional. Oil that's too cool means soggy popcorn. Oil that's too hot means burnt popcorn. The three kernels tell you exactly when you're ready.
Salt it however you want. We're particular about the corn. The toppings are your business.
